The liberation and clarity that comes with recognizing one's own queerness is simply pivotal in the life of queer youth. Being able to achieve that self-acceptance is done through learning, through conversations, through community, and through being able to identify with other inspirational queer figures both fictional and non-fictional. As a society, we are facing an ever-growing wave of hard-right legislation that has been designed to erase, limit, disrupt, and censor our youth from being able to understand the history and complexities of both the queer and BIPOC communities. More specifically, House Bill 1557, otherwise known as Florida's "Don't Say Gay" law, has been enacted specifically to sow seeds of discord and to punish those who aim to shine a light on our beautiful community.
We at GAZE Ltd. are standing proudly against this draconian legislation and are joining the fight to rid our state of such laws and we've united with a collection of immensely talented, homegrown queer and BIPOC South Florida artists to put together a project that not only celebrates the queer experience but also that serves a greater mission to help the legal fight to get such laws repealed. That is why we are pleased to present "The Kids Are Not Okay.", a 10-track compilation, and a multi-genre telling of queer stories that highlight the many colors and moods of what it is to be a queer and BIPOC individual. Proceeds after Bandcamps fees will go to benefit Equality Florida, a non-profit that is leading the legal initiative to help end "Don't Say Gay". Until we can promote an open dialogue for our youth to discuss safely and healthily their journeys of gender and sexual identity, The Kids Are Not Okay.
